Today is my sister’s birthday. I’m in NY but wanted to do something special that showed her I was thinking about her all day. We spent the afternoon in the city and I periodically stopped to wish my sister a happy birthday.

This picture of my parents is on my bulletin board behind my computer, right in my line of sight. It’s one of my favorite pictures ever. Yeah, they’re blurry and a box of crackers sit in front of them but their smiles are genuine and these are smiles I’ve seen throughout my whole life....

Why?
Partly because I am a crier and partly because I know what all it feels like to have a great connection with your sibling. Being a sister has perks... I don't think I would be who I am without my brother. I am a hot mess, aren't I, Elaine?
