I didn’t realize how much I needed a vacation like this until we pulled into the cottage and saw my mom waiting for us outside. It was pitch black the whole drive there. We were lost for the last half hour of the trip trying to find the house, but we were singing along to songs from the radio enjoying each other’s company so it was fine. We finally found the house and I immediately felt relaxation wash over me.
We did a whole lot while we were there. A whole lot of reading, watching soccer, eating, just being together as a family. I loved seeing my grandmother sewing in the corner and my brother in law hunched over a puzzle of the Everglades. I loved watching soccer with my dad and seeing my parents walking down to the beach. I loved eating my mother’s food and being able to cook for my family one day. I loved sitting on the couch and being able to feel my mom’s hand and seeing my sister playing with the new camera. I loved having a dog around again. There were so many things I loved about the weekend. Mostly I just loved the time with them. I live 20 minutes from my family, but it’s so easy to get caught up in the every day and not see each other as much as we would like. Here are some pictures from the long weekend, just snapshots from a time that was so special I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
