Random Thought Tuesday: Shakespeare Edition

I love that my random thoughts never come on the same day; that is pretty much on par with how my mind works. Today’s Random Thoughts are sponsored by the Bard himself as I’m teaching my students Shakespeare at the moment. Oy. Why I do what I do—I just don’t know.

Here are some of the things that have been jumping around in my head and don’t have a rightful place:

  • I could have slapped a kid today. Seriously. I think that teaching is merely a test of will power. Sometimes I feel that if you walk out at the end of the day without harming someone or calling them a dumbass, then you have succeeded.
  • Shakespeare is not that complicated. But you need a decent vocabulary, a dictionary and the ability to put two and two together.
  • I have seen the movie Romeo and Juliet (the one with a dreamy Leo DiCaprio) more times than I care to count.  Try six times in the past week. I can’t believe this movie was released in 1996. Holy crap.
  • Claire Danes is an ugly crier.
  • I miss my family. Part of the sacrifice of starting a business is that you don’t have as much time as you would like for all the people in your life. I miss seeing my family more than once a week. I certainly miss seeing my cousin who I have not hung out with in two months and my sister who totally went to see The Last Song without me.
  • Yes, I watch cheesy girl movies. As I tell my buddy Scott all the time: I am, in fact, a girl who reads romance novels and pays to watch Nicholas Sparks movies.
  • Mike watched an entire episode of Hannah Montana the other day.
  • Across the Universe is awesome. It was on cable this weekend and I watched it with commercials. I was almost late for a session because of it. I remember sitting in the movies when the trailer first started showing and hearing Mike’s loud cackle upon seeing the words “the most original, exhilarating, spectacular, groundbreaking motion picture of the year.” He laughed at their gumption, I guess. This movie makes me want to live my life to the tune of Beatles songs.
  • I still want this car. Bad.
  • I mentioned this on Twitter the other day, but why are elevator rides so awkward? I always give people the side-eye when I say hello or good morning and get ignored. I also hate it when they stare. It’s like social niceties fail to exist in such tight quarters. Lame.
  • Meet our neighbor:

There is plenty more random in this noggin’ but I figured I would spare you the rest.

Love, e
