My ipod fm transmitter thing in my pimp ride is broken, which means I can’t listen to my music. I am music-less. I listen to NPR most mornings and just finished listening to the 20-hour Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (i.e. everything that is right with the world). Though I love me some NPR (Steve Inskeep, you are awesome!), I still want to hear some tunes…particulary during that amazing 10-story treck up my garage to my parking spot. This weekend, I found myself in a conundrum. My solution? CDs.
Because I live in an apartment with precious space, my car serves as storage for some things like my old CD cases. I decided to break out some of my old mix CDs. Man, has this proved interesting. I keep on looking at Mike bewildered asking, “What the hell is THIS?” He’d just shrugs his shoulders and says, “Don’t look at me. You made it.”
What. The. Hell. Was. I. Thinking?
All I can say is that the 90′s and early 2000′s were scary. Nowhere can you find Papa Roach in the same mix as Jewel. I especially love my “All Things Rock Mix” in parenthesis I wrote (Badass). Really? Nelly Furtado is badass? Maybe when followed by Metallica’s “One”. This week I’ve listened to Nelly (whatever happened to him and his bandaid, eh?) and to a bunch of classic rock in the same mix as 50Cent singing about shorty’s birthdays. I want to slap former Elaine hard in the face.
The fun part has been the mystery of it all. You get a CD that only has a year written on it or some obscure title like “Endless Summer,” and you don’t know what your going to get. Sometimes it’s a nice surprise. Other times, not so much. Love, e

Yanne Frank...........too soon? - You made me a mix CD that has Culture Club, mixed with Candlebox & N*SYNC…
Adiene - That’s so funny! It’s really a shame that CDs are now almost obsolete, and with them is going the long enjoyed medium of the “mix tape” or CD. This post made me very nostalgic for my old mix CDs… And the fact that we don’t make them anymore. It’s like a snapshot of that moment in time. Joe always regales me of stories of this famous 80s mix CD that circulated the swimmers in highschool. Did you ever get a copy?
