The other day I entered a contest. And totally failed. The Pioneer Woman who has a blog I envy and love and want to inhabit had a photography assignment that called for readers’ best sunset pictures. My girl Lissette told me I should enter one of mine. Boasted by her confidence, I promptly sent off this one I took from the plane on our way back from New York this summer:

Yeah, it wasn’t picked. I know I didn’t send along my best one for some reason, but this is why I hate entering things, because I hate losing.
I have a particular affinity for the sunset. I touched on them in my previous post. I love running home and, after seeing the brilliant light, dashing for my camera to take pictures from my balcony. While it’s tricky to take pictures of people as the sun is setting, I have no problems capturing the actual sunset so I figured I’d share my favorite sunset pictures and see which ones the four of you who read my blog like the most.
This is the one that I should have entered in the contest:

Hello, industry.
We live next to an airport, so planes often make an appearance in my pictures.

I took this next one from the ship during a cruise we took back when we were dating.

This one was taken from the balcony of our old apartment. I hated that building that stood in my way but sometimes it made for a nice silhouette. That’s a hard word to spell.

I love how the plane is bravely going into that big ‘ol cloud in this one.

This one was taken from the pool deck of the old apartment. Two things I love dearly–sunsets and palm trees. .jpg)
This one was taken during our honeymoon in the Bahamas.

For the love of Pete, why didn’t I submit this one:

Or this one, for that matter:

What makes me proud is that I took all but the first picture with a point and shoot camera. No fancy SLRs for this gal during these sunsets. All I had were my trusty Kodaks and the audacity to shoot into the sun. I think every photographer has a pet project they are always working on; pictures they love to take other than the ones they get paid for. I make zero dollars taking these pictures, but they bring me joy. Knowing that I captured a fleeting moment just before the cloak of night is always a small accomplishment for me that, sure I’ll admit it, sometimes makes me fist pump. That’s when you know.
Love to hear your favorites.
Love, e
